This recent cancellation means Gazprom has now cancelled tenders for the construction of the Ukhta-Torzhok 2 pipeline, worth a total of around 16.8 billion roubles (US$220.2 million).
Ukhta-Torzhok 2 will allow more Russian gas to be fed into Nord Stream’s extension, which is designed to carry Russian gas to Germany.
In October 2015, Gazprom said it would reduce the planned capacity of its proposed TurkStream gas pipeline project in favour of expanding the existing Nord Stream gas pipeline.
The memorandum of intent to construct the Nord Stream II gas pipeline was signed in August 2015. The project would involve constructing two strings of the gas pipeline that would connect the Russian and the German coasts under the Baltic Sea.
The new gas pipeline capacity was estimated to total 55 Bcm a year.
