Gasbel II Pipeline inaugurated

The 18 inch diameter Gasbel II Pipeline connects Volta Redonda in the state of Rio de Janeiro to Queluzito in the state of Minas Gerais and has a capacity of 5 MMcm/d of natural gas.

Prior to 2010, the state of Minas Gerais was serviced solely by the Gasbel I Pipeline. In January 2010 Petrobras commissioned the Paulínia – Jacutinga Pipeline, which also services Minas Gerais. The newly commissioned Gasbel II and the Paulínia – Jacutinga Pipeline have increased the state’s delivery capacity from 3 MM cm/d to 12.9 MMcm/d of gas.

Brazil invests in pipeline infrastructure
In December 2002, Brazil had 5,607 km of transmission pipelines, while in December 2010 there will be 9,626 km. For more information on South America’s pipeline projects see Pipelines International’s South American snapshot
