The final section of the pipeline extends from the Kazakh-Kyrgyz border to the Sokuluk compressor station in the Chuy region of the Kyrgyz Republic.
Taking part in the ceremony were Kubanychbek Turdubayev, Kyrgyzstan’s Minister of Energy and Industry; Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee; Bolot Abildayev, Director General of Gazprom Kyrgyzstan; and heads of Kyrgyz local authorities and representatives of the ministries and agencies of the Republic, as well as other public officials.
The construction of the section from the Kazakh-Kyrgyz border to the Sokuluk compressor station will become the closing stage of Phase II in Kyrgyzstan. The annual capacity of this section will equal 1.7 Bcm of gas, with construction scheduled for completion in 2016.
Gazprom’s gas supply scheme
The construction of this section is the first project within Gazprom’s General Scheme of Gas Supply to and Gasification of the Kyrgyz Republic.
“The commissioning of Phase II will almost double the throughput of the Bukhara Gas-Bearing Province – Tashkent – Bishkek – Almaty gas main in Kyrgyzstan. This gas transmission route is of vital importance to meet a growing gas demand in Kyrgyzstan. Particularly, it will secure reliable gas supplies to northern industrialised areas in the Republic,” said Mr Miller.
Mr Miller recently met with Almazbek Atambayev, President of Kyrgyzstan, to discuss further development of Kyrgyzstan’s gas transmission and distribution infrastructure based on Gazprom’s General Scheme of Gas Supply to and Gasification of the Republic.
The meeting also touched upon the issues of joint hydrocarbon exploration and production in Kyrgyzstan, cooperation within the Kyrgyz petroleum product market development as well as implementation of social projects in the Republic.
Background
In 2014 Gazprom and Kyrgyzgaz signed the Sales and Purchase Agreement for a 100 per cent stake of KyrgyzgazProm (renamed Gazprom Kyrgyzstan), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Kyrgyzgaz.
Gazprom Kyrgyzstan is an exclusive importer of natural gas to Kyrgyzstan and the owner of the domestic gas transmission and distribution systems.
