The expansion increases the capacity of Florida Gas Transmission Company’s (FGT’s) mainline facilities from the Mobile Bay, Alabama area to southern Florida, and provides additional firm transportation service capacity throughout Florida to meet the state’s rising energy demand.
The FGT Phase VIII Expansion project included the construction of approximately 777 km of pipeline and 213 kPa of additional mainline compression in Alabama and Florida.
Southern Union recently received approval from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to place the $US2.48 billion FGT Phase VIII Expansion project into service.
Southern Union Vice Chairman, President and Chief Operating Officer Eric D. Herschmann said “We are pleased to have placed the Phase VIII Expansion into service on time and within budget. Natural gas demand in Florida is projected to continue to grow and Florida Gas Transmission is well positioned to continue to provide our customers with reliable supply.”
