The Hungarian section, which runs 47 km from AlgyÔ to CsanÌÁdpalota, was completed at the end of January 2010 and the pipeline is ready for test runs.
The 62 km Romanian section of the pipeline is being constructed by Transgaz and approximately 37 km of the section has been completed.
FGSZ and Transgaz – as the owners and operators of the Hungarian and Romanian high-pressure natural gas transmission systems respectively – first signed a Memorandum of Understanding in January 2008 regarding the inter-connection of their natural gas transmission systems via a new pipeline from Arad, Romania, to Szeged, Hungary.
The pipeline is designed to carry gas from Hungary to Romania, however the parties did not exclude the possibility of securing the technical conditions to reverse the direction of flow.
The cross-border section of the pipeline is expected to be complete by 30 September 2010.
