European Commission backs CO2 pipeline

The waste CO2 will be used to enhance crop growth, thereby reducing the current use of CO2 in flue gases obtained through the burning of natural gas in boilers and cogeneration installations.

The grant will be given to Bio Supply CV, a member of the Organic CO2 for the Assimilation of Plants (OCAP) group and will be used to construct pipeline infrastructure to transport waste CO2 from Abengoa Bioenergy Netherlands’ bioethanol plant in the harbour area of Rotterdam approximately 25 km to a number greenhouses in Zuidplaspolder.

OCAP is a joint-venture of Volker Wessels and Linde Gas and supplies CO2 to horticulturalists in the Netherlands.
