The production system construction and installation contract, valued at US$75–250 million, has been awarded to TechnipFMC.
The work scope comprises the development of the systems 5 templates and a total of 18 Christmas trees with associated components.
The development continues from Equinor’s previous milestone, in which pipelaying vessel Saipem Castorone completed a 283 km, 36 inch (915 mm) diameter oil pipeline from the Mongstad terminal to the Johan Sverdrup field in the North Sea.
The vessel is now preparing to lay a 156 km gas pipeline from the Johan Sverdrup field to the Statpipe Pipeline.
“This is an important milestone for the Johan Sverdrup development,” said Johan Sverdrup Development Senior Vice President Trond Bokn.
“We have now determined the subsea solution for both phase one and two of the field development, and TechnipFMC has been given the responsibility for both jobs.
“This gives us a good starting point for accelerating the collaboration on safety, efficiency improvement, simplification and technology development.”
Equinor Chief Procurement Officer Peggy Krantz-Underland said Johan Sverdrup is the biggest ongoing industrial project in Norway.
“The field development has played a key role in terms of activity and spinoffs during a demanding period for the industry, not least in Norway,” she said.
“Norwegian suppliers have secured more than 70 per cent of the Johan Sverdrup contracts, and this award further increases this share, demonstrating their ability to change and their competitiveness.”
Subject to relevant approvals, plans currently call for works to start November this year.
Phase two production is targeted for the end of 2022.
