The two newly-opened sections of pipeline make it now possible for the country to receive gas from its own offshore field. The subsea section of the network, with a length of 45km, runs from the platform to the coast, and a further 10km of onshore line connects to the Pula terminal. The 55-km long, 20-in, 75-bar section was constructed by the Croatian oil company Ina over the past six months, and was budgeted at E45 million (å£30 million). The E90-million (å£60 million), 191-km long, 20in diameter, Pula-Karlovac pipeline was constructed by Plinacro.
Croatia has announced that it plans to invest E440 million (å£295 million) in construction of gas pipelines in the next five years.
