Compressing gas in Bangladesh

Chevron will install the compressor station as part of a $US52 million Production Sharing Contract with Petrobangla for the joint development of Block 15.

The Muchai compressor station would serve to increase transmission capacity of the existing 175 km, 24 inch diameter North – South pipeline, which runs from Golapganj to Ashuganj, as well as the 30 inch diameter Muchai – Ashuganj gas transmission pipeline.

A Chevron official was quoted by local news sources as saying “All operative gas fields in the northeastern parts of the country could produce more gas. However, pressure constraints in the northeast to southwest gas pipeline [system] prevent that from being possible without additional compression.

“Adding compression to key parts of the system will help alleviate and circumvent that constraint,” they said.
