The section of pipeline that lies in the Lom-Pangar dam flood plain will be shifted 25 km from its current track as the pipelines were not constructed with the protection required to withstand flooding.
The Cameroon Oil Transportation Company has signed an agreement with the Cameroon Government to undertake the re-routing project and will take immediate steps to publish the final costing for the project to enable work to commence as soon as possible.
The Chad – Cameroon Petroleum Development and Pipeline Project became operational in July 2003 and involved the construction of a 1,070 km pipeline to transport crude oil from three fields in southwestern Chad to a floating facility 11 km off the Cameroon coast.
In related news, United States Ambassador to Cameroon Janet Garvey has awarded two US Trade Development Agency grants to aid Cameroon’s Ministry of Energy and Water Resources in the expansion of the country’s oil and gas sector.
A grant of $US615,000 was earmarked to support the Ministry’s efforts in developing a better approach to petroleum product transport by funding a feasibility study, including a preliminary environmental study, on a proposed pipeline project that would link Cameroon’s refinery at Limbe to distribution centres and terminals throughout the country.
