Balticconnector receives water permit for offshore section

The permit allows Baltic Connector Oy to build an offshore gas pipeline from Inkoo to the Finnish-Estonian border.

It was granted on 30 November in accordance with the Water Act covers the waterway works, as well as pipeline installation and use in the sea location.

An additional permit was granted to build the Inkoo-Siuntio onshore pipeline under the Ingarskilajoki River, which covers waterway works in the area, and the installation and subsequent use of the pipeline.

The decision is another sign of positive progress after a number of significant developments were announced in September, including gaining build permission, a compressor procurement and the signing of a new pipe-manufacturing agreement.

The Balticconnector project meets the objective of connecting Europe’s gas networks and creating a shared market for Finland and the Baltic state, and has valid authorisation for five years.

It is due to be completed by 2020.
