The gas pipeline will have a capacity of 8 Bcm/a, with potential for expansion to 16 Bcm/a.
The pipeline will connect the Algerian capital region with Almeria in south east Spain, and will run partly along the sea bed.
The pipeline is owned by Medgaz, a consortium of five companies: Sonatrach, Cepsa, Iberdrola, Endesa and GDF Suez.
