The company issued new details on the proposed project via a fact sheet on its website.
The Utica Marcellus Texas Pipeline (UMTP) will transport Y-grade natural gas liquids (NGLs) from the Utica and Marcellus Shales to the Texas Gulf Coast.
The project will involve:
- Converting approximately 1,617 km of Kinder Morgan’s 24 and 26-inch Tennessee Gas Pipeline system, currently in natural gas service to NGL service, extending from Mercer, Pennsylvania to Natchitoches, Louisiana;
- The construction of approximately 321 km of new NGL pipeline to extend the Y-grade Pipeline from Natchitoches, Louisiana to Mont Belvieu, Texas, and/or south Louisiana;
- The construction of approximately 257 km of new natural gas and GNL laterals and interconnects in Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Mississippi, which will supply alternate sources to the existing pipeline.
Kinder Morgan has said that the NGL pipeline would have an initial capacity of 150,000 bbl/d, and be expandable to 400,000 bbl/d with the addition of pump stations.
Route selection and permit preparation is currently ongoing.
Kinder Morgan Energy Partners entered into a letter of intent with MarkWest Utica EMG to form a midstream joint venture to develop the project in August 2013.
