CRC-Evans supplied automatic welding equipment, consumable parts, welding wire, and technical support. The flowlines totalled approximately 100km in length, and comprised 8-in, 10-in, 12-in, and 13.375-in diameter pipe. The work, took seven months to complete.
The automatic welding system used was CRC-Evans’ P200, whose features include microprocessor control and programmable weld parameters. The equipment is designed to allow preset welding parameters to be set up for each pass, as well as for all positions around the pipe circumference. CRC-Evans also provided its automated, remote control, tie-in clamps to increase production of tie-in welding during the reeling of the pipe onto the laybarge. This specialized equipment has also been used by CSO for tie-in welding in Norway and Australia, and is reported to have reduced tie-in welding time by two thirds.
