The Convention and Exhibition is recognised as one of the most important events in the national energy and infrastructure calendar. In addition, APIA celebrates 40 years as an Association in 2008 so the event will also be a “˜40th Birthday Celebration’.
The title of this year’s program is “˜Australia’s Sustainable Future – In The Pipeline!’. A wide range of papers will be presented and will consider such topics as “˜40 Years of Pigging and Pipelines – An International Perspective’, “˜Australia’s Economic Boom – Myths, Realities and the Challenges of Change’ and “˜Carbon Credits and Environmental Offsets – What This Means to the Pipeline Industry’.
Innovations and new developments in areas such as carbon dioxide pipelines, MIAB welding, testing and inspection will be discussed, as well as a session on operational issues and papers on safety. A number of presentations on projects, including the DBNGP, QSN Link and Queensland water pipelines, will be made.
The 2008 Exhibition will be the biggest in the Association’s history with over 70 exhibitors set to showcase their leading edge products and services, providing interest for delegates from all backgrounds.
The event will also see the presentation of the 2008 APIA Safety Award. The award is designed to recognise one or more of achievements such as outstanding safety performance in the workplace, whether in the office, industrial, project or operations; a unique innovation or initiative addressing a safety issue; and a new and well-defined safety system, procedure or practice.
The Board of APIA has now invited nominations for the 2008 Safety Award. Nominees must be APIA members.
The APIA Convention’s trademark format will return, providing a number of opportunities for business networking throughout the four day event.
