Located 320 km north of Perth, Western Australia, the Arrowsmith project is aiming to produce 25 t of hydrogen per day using solar and wind energy, with the ability to be expanded to a global scale plant supporting the export of liquid hydrogen to the Asia Pacific region.
Petrofac’s FEED work will support the final investment decision IBE aims to make on the project in the first quarter of 2021.
Petrofac Operations Director Adam Cheesman said the agreement further advanced Petrofac’s expansion into new and renewable energy.
“This is breaking new ground in terms of green hydrogen production, but the various elements of the design are all well-established and are proven technologies,” he said.
“We want to be the partner of choice when it comes to hydrogen production, offering services across the asset life cycle, including operations and maintenance support.”
IBE said the project is expected to drive significant growth in regional jobs, energy security and a reduction in WA’s carbon emissions.
Last month, it was announced Xodus Group would deliver preliminary environmental impact assessment, environmental impact identification and ad hoc environmental support, including stakeholder consultation for the project.
IBE aims to have the Arrowsmith plant operational by late 2022.
