The company has said that early construction works at the GLNG logistics facility in Gladstone Harbour are now underway, and that the project is on schedule to produce first LNG exports in 2015.
“The marine crossing line-pipe fabrication is completed, and the pipe is being shipped [to the Gladstone site],” Santos said.
Macmahon Holdings is currently preparing the 144 hectare site for the project’s LNG plant on the southwest side of Curtis Island by clearing land, undertaking bulk earthworks and constructing pavements, roads and drainage.
The LNG plant and other downstream components will be engineered and constructed by Bechtel.
Other key engineering, procurement and construction contracts for the project include Fluor for upstream surface facilities and Saipem for the 910 mm diameter, 435 km gas transmission pipeline that will transfer coal seam gas from Santos’ Queensland fields to Gladstone.
Santos has previously said that the GLNG Project will create up to 5,000 jobs during construction and approximately 1,000 permanent production jobs once construction is complete.
Santos holds a 30 per cent interest in the project; Petronas holds 27.5 per cent, Total holds 27.5 per cent and Korea Gas holds 15 per cent.
