The pipeline will form part of the Beyondie Sulphate of Potash Project (BSOPP) with works comprising of an inlet station from the Goldfields Gas Pipeline, 79.4 km of 100 mm gas main line and a delivery station for both power generation and use within the SOP production facility.
Pipe for the project is being supplied by Edgen Murray while WA-based contractor Pipecraft is undertaking the pipe installation works.
The main line works are commencing first and are estimated to take five months, with construction works for the inlet and delivery stations being finalised afterwards.
Currently, there has been 20.1 km of path cleared, 15.8 km of pipe delivered from Port Hedland and 2 km of pipe placed along the roadside reserve.
Kalium Lakes Managing Director Brett Hazelden said the gas pipeline is a key enabler for the company to benefit from low ongoing operating costs.
“The pipeline has also been sized to allow increased production from Stage 2 and potential magnesium by-products,” he said.
“This valuable piece of infrastructure provides a significant long-term advantage to the BSOPP, which currently has a 30 to 50 year mine life.”
The pipeline’s construction has been enabled through debt funding received from the Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility.
