Mr Palmer explained “That it was exciting times for coal seam gas (CSG) in Australia. “Six years ago we would have never thought CSG would have developed in such a way,” he said.
The growth of CSG production in Queensland compared to that of conventional gas over recent years has been huge. Mr Palmer said that the industry has developed through trial and error, “using a “˜can do’ attitude on a shoe string budget”.
Mr Palmer noted that much of the growth of the CSG industry has been driven by experienced members of the gas industry. As the growth of the industry continues, he said that procedures need to be consolidated and a formula of learning needs to be developed for those entering the industry.
“We need to get the information [about the industry] out of “˜experienced heads’ so that, moving forward, others can benefit from this knowledge.”
He noted APIA’s support of the CSG industry, through events such as the CSG Seminar recently held in Brisbane. The seminar focused on the use of polyethylene pipe associated with CSG projects.
“APIA’s support of CSG polyethylene is first class,” said Mr Palmer. “Their dedication to the industry warrants full support from everyone.”
