Finkel appointed low emissions Special Adviser

The newly created role will see Dr Finkel conduct strategic engagement in support of reducing emissions and assist in the helping achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement.

Dr Finkel played a major role in the production of Australia’s National Hydrogen Strategy and was Chair of the Council of Australian Government’s Hydrogen Working Group.

Federal Minister for Energy and Emissions Reduction Angus Taylor said Dr Finkel has already commenced engagement with potential international partners on increasing investment in shared research and development.

“I welcome Dr Finkel’s appointment and look forward to working with him to promote Australia’s practical, technology-led approach to reducing emissions,” said Mr Taylor.

Dr Finkel was succeeded as Chief Scientist by Dr Cathy Foley in December 2020.
