Tasmanian Minister for Primary Industries and Water Bryan Green welcomed the Federal Government’s endorsement of the $A88 million project, saying that its operator – the Tasmanian Irrigation Development Board (TIDB) – can now proceed with detailed project planning.
Water for the scheme will be supplied from Arthurs Lake via a 140 km pipeline to a holding dam at Floods Creek, west of Tunbridge. The pipeline will have an approximate diameter of 600 mm and 1 m, and a capacity of 38,500 ML/a.
The TIDB will issue tenders for the project’s construction before the end of May 2011, and expects to award contracts in September 2011.
Construction of the pipeline and irrigation network is due to commence in October or November of 2011, and after a two-year construction timeframe, will be completed at the end of 2013.
