Enthusiasm pays off for remote project manager

General Trade Industries (GTI) Managing Director Geoff Pike was nominated and successful in the awards following the company’s successful and timely contribution to the establishment of a 132 person camp on the Jackson to Moomba Oil Pipeline project.

Mr Pike was named Queensland Rural and Remote Project Manager of the Year 2008 at a Gala Dinner awards ceremony on 7 November last year. Overall, the awards received 600 applications.

The judges were most impressed by Mr Pike’s commitment to working and living in remote rural Australia.

GTI is based in Thargomindah, which has a population of 220 people and is located 1,000 km west of Brisbane. Mr Pike said that he employs 30 full time staff and has up to 20 contractors working for him at any one time, which can be calculated at just under a quarter of the town’s population.

The judges also noted Mr Pike’s outstanding energy, optimism and entrepreneurial skills.

On receiving the award, Mr Pike thanked his company team and employees. “I’ve got a great bunch of blokes so it’s a really dynamic team that we’ve built and it’s a pleasure to work with them,” he said.

Mr Pike also congratulated the other nominees, saying “The focus of my peers in this room is indicative of the genuine ability and direction of our state and what it has to offer.

“The capability and enthusiasm that I have witnessed makes me overwhelmed with delight to be standing up here.”

The judges were most impressed by Mr Pike’s commitment to working and living in remote rural Australia.

GTI completes instrumentation, electrical, mechanical and civil construction works on gas, oil and energy facilities.
