Mipela GeoSolutions worked with OSD and Zinfra to define and develop a solution called X-Info DBYD Works for the Tasmania Gas Pipeline (TGP).
The synchronisation of Dial Before You Dig (DBYD) enquiry-related works allows TGP operators to fully automate the way they work when dealing with enquiries that may affect the pipeline. All contact information and DBYD request details are automatically uploaded to a user-friendly interface within X-Info Connect, within minutes of receiving an enquiry.
This allows TGP operators to not only record and track DBYD requests and communications as they are received, but also has the added functionality of linking to maps of the request area, providing a geographic context. The ability to record information on all contacts related to the enquiry is key to ensuring all parties work well together.
From data collection in the field using iPhones to managing communications and task deadlines, X-Info DBYD Works is a central accessible solution for all user levels to view, action and report on key information. Procedures can be assigned to pipeline operators with due dates and notifications are sent via an automatic email to keep staff accountable to their tasks.
When asked how X-Info DBYD Works has improved productivity and efficiency, Pipeline Operator Matthew Stewart said “One simple word: automation. There is very minimal manual data entry as a number of steps are completed automatically. Previously, we depended on other parties to perform updates without knowing if they were completed or not. Now we see live data updating as we go through the steps.”
Key documents such as design drawings or legal contracts can also be attached to the relevant request.
“My favourite feature, is how X-Info DBYD Works connects with X-Info Connect and X-Info Maps. All three update at the same time, which you depend on in the field,” said Mr Stewart.
