The event took place on 29 June at the Parmelia Hilton in Perth and was attended by more than 120 delegates from the pipeline and associated industries.
Seminar attendees were updated on the latest industry developments through a number of concise and useful presentations.
In her seminar address, APIA Chief Executive Cheryl Cartwright outlined the association’s endeavours to support the manufacturing industry and said that the strength of the Young Pipeliners Forum chapters was a positive sign for the future of the pipeline industry.
In the morning attendees enjoyed presentations from WA Maritime Museum Executive Director Ian MacLeod, who spoke on the corrosion of underwater pipelines; Corrosion Control Engineering’s John Grapigalia, who spoke about corrosion protection at the shoreline; OSD Senior Mechanical Project Engineer Michael Sullivan, who talked about the formation of hydrates within pipelines, which completely block transmission; WorleyParsons Manager of Pipeline Systems John Greenslade, who spoke about the different types of unconventional gas and gave a summary of their pros and cons; OSD Engineer Dave Newman, who presented on advances in fracture control; and, Buru Energy General Manager of Production and Development Marie Malaxos who spoke about unconventional gas prospects.
In the afternoon presentations were given by ISA Group Marketing/Business Development Manager Judith Uren who talked about overseas recruitment in the industry; Clayton Utz Senior Lawyer Chantelle Power who made an insightful presentation on the implications of the carbon tax; and finally, the National Offshore Petroleum Safety and Environmental Management Authority (NOPSEMA) Manager, Operational Strategy and Improvement Ian MacGillivray, who talked about the offshore regulatory changes occurring at NOPSEMA.
The evening was spent catching up and networking with friends, partners and colleagues.
