A memorandum of understanding (MOU) has been signed by Transition Energy Corporation (TEC), Queensland Pacific Metals (QPM) and Northern Queensland Gas Pipeline (NQGP) to supply and transport gas from the northern Bowen Basin to Townsville’s Lansdowne Eco Industrial Park.
The non-binding memorandum was signed by all parties this week, confirming they will work together to deliver and develop a dedicated gas field supply chain.
The MOU brings together parties with experience in developing and operating natural gas projects with existing pipeline infrastructure already in place from Moranbah in the Bowen Basin to Townsville.
The MOU parties will negotiate gas supply and transportation agreements, working together to complete studies for feasibility, design, approvals and construction of the initial gas supply chain.
TEC intends to assess the potential to drain and harvest gas that would otherwise be vented into the atmosphere.
Once produced, the gas will be transported to a new centralised gas processing facility before transportation to the NQGP.
The gas supply chain is happening in conjunction with other works being undertaken at QPM’s Townsville Energy Chemicals Hub (TECH) to turn it into a zero-carbon nickel producer.
