Century zinc slurry pipeline back in full swing

Production of zinc concentrate at the mine had been suspended since October 2009 until a 1 km bypass was installed along the 304 km pipeline. MMG Century undertook a number of weeks of careful testing and monitoring following the installation of the bypass prior to restarting production.

Clean up at Floraville Station, the pastoral property on which the pipeline breach and release of zinc slurry occurred has also continued, with the majority of contaminated soil at the site transported back to the mine’s tailings dam. Final rehabilitation work at the site, as part of a plan approved by the Queensland Department of Environment and Resource Management, will also be completed at the end of the wet season.

Ongoing monitoring will be undertaken to ensure the integrity of the clean up.
