Record floods disrupt gas supply in New Zealand

A temporary transmission pipeline connection has been serving over 6,000 natural gas customers in the Hawke's Bay region since early March after the worst floods on record in the lower North Island of New Zealand caused a major gas supply disruption. A permanent supply connection is due for completion by the end of April.

The Trans-Territory Pipeline

In June 2003, Woodside Energy Ltd, Eni Australia B.V. (a subsidiary of Italy's Eni Group) and Alcan Gove Pty Limited signed exclusive heads of agreement specifying key commercial terms for the supply of natural gas from the Blacktip gas field in the Joseph Bonaparte Gulf to Alcan's alumina refinery and bauxite mining plant at Gove in the Northern Territory.
