The companies will collaborate on the new pipeline application with the intention of offering their combined customer base a more cost-effective option for pipeline repair and replacement.
The collaboration also intends to repurpose existing pipeline networks for hydrogen and CO2 transportation.
Under the MOU, Baker Hughes and Primus Line will collaborate on commercial models to drive non-metallic pipeline growth in the pipeline integrity management market.
Leveraging Baker Hughes’ scale and extensive non-metallic pipeline portfolio with Primus Line’s domain expertise and existing standing in trenchless pipeline rehabilitation, the companies will offer advanced turnkey solutions for rehabilitation and repurposing projects in the oil, gas and industrial sectors.
In pipeline rehabilitation, a non-metallic composite pipe is pulled through the existing infrastructure to reduce the need for full excavation.
This technique allows for more pipeline projects to move forward by reducing risks and minimising community disruptions.
This method will also prove essential in creating opportunities for transporting lower carbon fuels.
Baker Hughes Vice President for onshore flexible pipeline solutions Hatem Haidar said the MOU marked an important milestone in the company’s growth strategy for non-metallic composite pipes.
“Together we have the capability to unlock opportunity for customers by extending the life of their existing pipeline systems and offering an economic alternative for repurposing pipelines for transportation of new fuels like hydrogen and CO2,” Haidar said.
