Austrack Equipment recently dispatched the biggest excavator in its fleet to a central Queensland mine.
Getting the 120-ton Hitachi transported to its new home required an operation of military precision. The transport arrangements required both pilot and police escorts.
In addition, the huge horsepower requirements to handle the heavy load were met by lead and trailing prime movers in a push-pull set up. The tandem prime mover arrangement resulted in a combined horsepower of more than 1300HP.
The excavator arrived in its new home more than 800km from Brisbane where it started its journey. It is now deployed on a river deviation project which will involve some very significant earthmoving. It will spend its time loading out three Cat 777 dump trucks with a combined haul capacity of 270 tons.
