The initial technical review will be done by a working group constituted under the APIA Research and Standards Committee. When the working group has agreed on recommended changes, the responsibility for final editorial work on the standard
will be transferred to the Standards Australia ME-038-01 Committee. The working group contains both senior and younger people, the former for their in-depth experience and expertise and the latter to learn and provide continuity in the longer term.
This will be a full review of all aspects of AS 2885 Part 1. Although the widespread restructuring that occurred in 2007 is not expected to be repeated, there may be substantial changes in some areas such as safety management studies.
AS 2885 is the bible of the pipeline industry. It has the force of law through being referenced in pipeline legislation or licences. The industry also feels a strong ownership of the standard because it is developed by committees that have strong industry representation as well as community representation in the form of the technical regulators from each state. Because of this special status, any revision of the standard requires input from the industry as a whole and not just the committee members.
If you have a concern about any aspect of the current Part 1, including ambiguities, inconsistencies, gaps or errors, forward suggestions to Peter Tuft via the contact form under the “˜About Me’ tab at www.pipelinesoz.wordpress.com
