APP – Australia’s largest pig maker

In February 2007, the company bought all the significant polyurethane plant, equipment and tooling of IPP Industries and further diversified its manufacturing base. APP employed Russell Laidlaw, ex-IPP Industries Polyurethane Division Manager, who was responsible for the manufacture and sales of product including pipeline pigs (bi-directional, scraper/cup, variable pipe, jetting and tracking) and other products.

APP’s core business is the supply of screens to the mining and mineral processing industries. It specialises in the supply of Trommel Screens, Cross Tensioned Screens and Modular Screens with an emphasis on engineering for difficult applications and unusual circumstance.

Customers include Placer Dome, BHP, Boral, Zinifex, Readymix, Iluka, Pioneer and KCGM.

The company also supplies a wide range of polyurethane mouldings to general industry in Australia. Customers include GMH, Mitsubishi, Clyde Apac, Electrolux, Toyota, Amcor and Kimberly Clark. Products vary from large conveyor head drum rollers and liners for bucket wheel excavators through to agricultural industry components, a wide range of materials handling components through to suction cups for robotic assembly and manufacturing applications.

APP has recently been contracted by Esso Australia for the supply and refurbishment of pipeline batching pigs, and is currently negotiating arrangements with a number of other customers.

All manufacturing is undertaken to quality standard ISO 9001:2001.

The company is increasing its range of tooling to ensure availability of a complete range of pipeline pigs for all industries and applications. APP uses a range of different polyurethane elastomers, selected specifically for the application, and its experience encompasses TDI Polyethers and Polyesters, MDI Polyesters and Polycaprolactones. Additionally, APP has developed a number of composite materials incorporating both high slip additives and ceramic additives.
