APA completes EGP pre-commissioning

Spiecapag Lucas – a joint venture between Spiecapag Australia and AJ Lucas – was awarded the construction contract for the pipeline, which commenced in March 2015, and made impressive time on the original eight-month schedule. Project Director John Walsh told PPO News that the contractor is currently de-mobilising, with a few minor punchlist items remaining at the project, following a successful, injury-free run. “We started construction in March of this year and the hydrotest was complete by the end of August, six weeks ahead of an eight-month schedule,” Mr Walsh said. “We gained a month-and-a-half on the eight months, which is always good news. We are particularly proud of our safety performance on the project which was completed injury free, an achievement the entire project team can take great credit for.” The Eastern Goldfields Gas Pipeline will supply gas to mining operations in the Eastern Goldfields region of WA. Commissioning activities at the pipeline are expected to be completed by the end of December 2015. Safety milestone reached for Spiecapag Lucas The Spiecapag Lucas joint venture has achieved a significant milestone of 1 million manhours without a lost time injury (LTI) or medical treatment injury (MTI). Commenting on the achievement, Spiecapag Australia Managing Director John Walsh said it was the direct result of the project team’s hard work and diligent application of safety systems developed and improved upon by Spiecapag and partner Lucas Engineering & Construction. “Spiecapag returned to Australia in 2013 to renew our successful partnership with Lucas and our proudest achievement is our safety record; we will continue to seek to raise the bar to continue this success,” Mr Walsh said. Since 2013, work has been completed for clients such as QGC and APA Group, with APA Senior Program Manager Barrie Sturgeon congratulating Spiecapag Lucas on reaching the milestone, commenting on the impressive safety statistics recorded during the construction phase of the Eastern Goldfields Gas Pipeline in Western Australia.
