Kanga-1 to spud early May

Finder Energy has secured the Diamond Offshore Ocean Apex semi-submersible drilling rig for the upcoming Kanga-1 well, which is located in WA-412-P in the Northern Carnarvon Basin, offshore Western Australia.

The previous operator of the Ocean Apex has completed its activities and the rig is currently on stand-by. All regulatory and environmental approvals are in place for drilling and preparation are nearing completion with the WA-412-P joint venture on track for rig handover around 1 May 2022.

The Kanga-1 well will take 30 days and reach a total depth of 3300 m. Kanga-1 is a large robust structure with the primary objective being the Jurassic Legendre Formation reservoir sandstone.

At the beginning of April Finder Energy was listed on the ASX and officially commenced trading under the code FDR on April 8.

Given the high oil prices and growing demand within the sector, Finder’s plans have come at the ideal time.

Following this project, the company’s exploration of the North West Shelf will continue; in particular, its offshore WA-547-P block, which is on trend with the Dorado oil discovery.
