Chevron and BHP sign gas deal

Chevron has signed a new deal to supply natural gas to BHP from its Wheatstone facility in Western Australia.

From July, Chevron will supply BHP Nickel West with 22 PJ of gas over a term of 3.5 years.

Chevron Australia Managing Director Al Williams said gas would continue to power critical industries in WA.

“Chevron is committed to delivering natural gas supplies to Western Australian homes and businesses, helping to power local jobs, industry and communities,” he said.

“As a reliable and cost-effective way to generate electricity, natural gas is a vital energy source for current and future energy needs of Western Australian industry.”

Wheatstone project is a joint venture between Chevron (operator, 64.14 per cent), Woodside (13 per cent), KUFPEC (13.4 per cent), PE Wheatstone (partly-owned by JERA, 8 per cent) and Kyushu Electric Power Company (1.46 per cent).

Chevron-operated Wheatstone and Gorgon projects can produce up to 500 TJ per day of gas for WA’s domestic market.
