The project is part of a development agreement between the Queensland Government and Australian Gas Networks (AGN) – the country’s largest gas distribution company – for the delivery and operation of a pipeline that will support the development of the new $70M Knauf plasterboard facility.
Making news in the local media in Queensland was a visit by Australian Gas Networks (AGN) Chief Operating Officer Andrew Staniford and the Queensland Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries and Member for Bundaberg Leanne Donaldson.
Mr Staniford said the gas pipeline was progressing well.
“Construction of the pipeline is now well and truly underway, and will take about six months to complete, followed by tie-ins to facilities and gas commissioning,” said Mr Staniford.
“Everything is on target for the pipeline to be commissioned and fully operational in December.”
The pipeline will have the capacity to deliver 1.5 TJ/d.
Not only will this will be sufficient to deliver gas to the anticipated $70 million Knauf plasterboard factory, but it will also provide additional capacity
“[This is] so that we can attract more consumers to link up with the pipeline and use the gas, and provide a further boost to the economic development in the area,” said Mr Staniford.
Zinfra’s scope of works is for the installation of a 100 mm diameter transmission pipeline which includes sections of open cut by excavators and trenching machines, and major crossings utilising Zinfra’s expertise in horizontal directional drilling (HDD) design.
The project is being overseen by APA Group, a long-term operator for AGN.
At its peak, the project will create approximately 40–50 jobs, including around 15 local contractor jobs.
Zinfra has engaged local subcontractors to assist with the delivery of this project, including local machine operators, civil construction labourers, traffic management and vacuum excavation.
