The South Australian YPF finished 2015 in fine form with the “˜bring an oldie’ lawn bowl competition.
A great night of food, drink, conversation and (occasionally) bowling was made possible by the generous sponsorship of SEA Gas, Epic Energy and Maloney Field Services.
A mix of experienced and up-and-coming pipeliners participated in the event with the aim of fostering intergenerational links and knowledge transfer.
As usual, the event was kicked off with a few drinks and a BBQ buffet, which was a great opportunity to sort out just who classified as an “˜oldie’, pick out allies and competitors and to start raising some team spirit.
After an explanation of the rules, the competition got underway with great enthusiasm, though somewhat less skill.
Eight teams competed over three rounds for the championship, and the games started off casually enough but quickly became competitive.
Close bowls saw teams demanding accurate measurements be taken, and with 40 engineers in the area a new standard for the sport was soon set.
After the 3 rounds of hard work – well, hard work doesn’t always mean physical work – we found a well-deserving winning team.
As the trophy had been broken by last year’s winning team, edible gifts were awarded to the winner instead.
All in all, the night was lively, fun, well attended and a great networking opportunity.
The SA YPF committee would like to thank all participants as well as SEA Gas, Epic Energy and Maloney Field Services for making this event possible.
