BHP Billiton backs international developments

BHP Billiton has talked down any potential development of its LNG assets off the coast of Western Australia, instead focusing on the US shale market.

Speaking at the Barclays CEO Energy-Power Conference in New York City, BHP Billiton President Petroleum and Potash Tim Cutt said the company would prioritise highest-return opportunities in petroleum. He outlined that there will be a focus on deep-water developments in the Americas, and the shale liquids business. This means that the company’s ‘greenfield gas’ business is lower priority.
