The Australian Pipeliner — April 2010
On 25 February, the South Australian Young Pipeliners Forum held a networking event, which provided an excellent opportunity for young pipeliners to discuss industry related issues with each other as well as older members of the industry.
The evening started with an engaging technical presentation by Fyfe’s Stephen Timms entitled ‘The Evolution of the Pipeline Industry in Australia’.
Mr Timms has a wealth of experience, having worked in the pipeline industry since 1970. The presentation summarised the key changes that have occurred in the industry over the years and touched on some of Mr Timms’ personal experiences.
One highlight of the presentation was a slide showing two photos, one of Mr Timms graduating and another with Prime Minister John Howard, which was combined with the comment, “What I’m trying to say here is that I made it all the way to the top.” This was received as a great motivational comment for the young pipeliners.
Mr Timms’ sense of humour, interesting content and great delivery made for an entertaining presentation, which fully engaged the audience.

Following the presentation the attendees had a chance to network with each other and ask Mr Timms any questions in a relaxed atmosphere.
The South Australian YPF are planning to hold at least three more events this year, including one mentoring event.
