When you are working on a pipeline project, there is no such thing as too much information. A project needs all underlying mapping, including topographical mapping, aerial photography, geological mapping, environmental mapping, heritage mapping, land use mapping, land tenure mapping, land use mapping - and the list goes on. WKC know where to go to get the latest mapping data and how to use it, whether it be a geographical information system (GIS) or a CAD system.

Once you have all available data you need to ascertain a route for your pipeline. WKC have had years of experience and know what makes the best route. Using the available data they are able to carry out a desktop study to optimise the route before going to site. Then, working in conjunction with the engineers and combined with site visits they are able to get you a route that is the best possible.

The route will then need to be marked and feature information will have to be collected to produce a set of alignment sheets and gather information for the risk assessment process. With their GPS equipment and customised coding systems, coupled with Viaduct™, their alignment sheet generating software, they are able to have a full set of alignment sheets suitable for design and risk assessments within a few days of the survey work being finished. One recent example was for the Telfer pipeline. The total length was 440 km and WKC completed the survey in five weeks and the alignment sheets were available one week later.

Using a combination of spread sheets and databases, WKC are able to populate the alignment sheets with all of the design data and produce the approved for construction drawings. Again these can be customised to the clients needs. WKC are able to produce a traditional drawing with all information on the drawing or a simplified drawing with the design information detailed in separate tables.
