With Chevron’s Gorgon LNG project in full swing, Wasco has been kept occupied with its contract, involving the coating of 850 km of pipe. Due for completion in the first quarter of 2012, this project has already passed its mid-way mark.
Wasco has also since secured another Australian project: namely Australia Pacific LNG (APLNG). The $42 million APLNG project, a joint venture between Origin Energy and ConocoPhillips, involves the coating of over 700 km of pipe, including the coating of 450 km of gas transmission pipeline for the transport of dehydrated and compressed coal seam gas.
The gas transmission pipeline runs from the Surat and Bowen basins to a proposed LNG processing site located at Laird Point on Curtis Island, Gladstone. Work will be undertaken at Wasco’s primary coating plant in Kuantan, Malaysia.
Coating works are expected to commence in the fourth quarter of 2011, with a completion target of 2012.

International expansion
In Malaysia, Wasco has secured key projects including the Sabah Oil and Gas Terminal, the Tapis enhanced oil recovery project and the Kebabangan Northern Hub Development Project.
Besides its activities in the far east, Wasco is expanding to the Gulf of Mexico via a joint venture created between the Bayou Companies, part of Insituform Technologies and Wasco Energy’s coatings business unit.
The joint venture, Bayou Wasco Insulation (BWI) Technologies, will be based in Louisiana, United States, to provide offshore insulation services to customers in the United States, the Gulf of Mexico, central America and the Caribbean. With Wasco holding a 49 per cent interest, the venture will combine Wasco’s expertise in the insulation market, with the operational, sales and logistics capabilities of the Bayou Companies. BWI will provide clients with full-thermal insulation coating services for offshore flow assurance, including polyurethane foam and syntactic polypropylene. The facility is expected to be operational by early 2012.
Wasco has also signed another joint venture with Insituform Technologies, based in Singapore, known as WCU Corrosion Technologies. Its offerings include high-density polyethylene lining for new and existing pipelines in the southeast Asia region. With Wasco holding the majority share of 51 per cent, this joint venture will combine the products and services of Corrpro and United Pipeline Systems, with the operational, sales and logistics capabilities of Wasco in Asia.
