A 133 km pipeline is proposed to carry water from the 373,662 ML Connors River Dam to Moranbah, and is expected to carry 49,500 ML/a of water to the Bowen Basin. Following a demand for water in the west, construction of an additional 200 km pipeline from the Connors River Dam to the Galilee Basin has also been confirmed.

Central Queensland Regional Water Supply Strategy has identified the Connors River Dam project as the preferred medium to long-term water supply solution to meet growing demands within the Bowen Basin region.

SunWater Infrastructure Development General Manager Mr Mark Browne said that the progression of these infrastructure projects were vital to the continued water security of the associated townships, as well as being welcome news for the mining sector. Mr Browne said that completion of the dam and pipeline projects was scheduled for early 2014.
