Both companies have expanded rapidly since their early beginnings of just a few employees to now be part of a large engineering consulting company with more than 120 employees working from six locations around Australia.

Fyfe commenced operating as a survey company in 1982 in Light Square, Adelaide. In 1994 Fyfe successfully won a Santos contract for oil and gas work in the Cooper Basin. The next major expansion began in 2001 when Fyfe acquired Allan Gilbert and Associates, an Adelaide Civil Engineering company, followed by MJ Hedges Geomeasure, a Queensland survey and town planning practice.

MJ Hedges began operating from a small office in the south of Brisbane in 1977, servicing the oil and gas industry in Brisbane and rural Queensland, in particular for the Silver Springs Gas Pipeline Bridge Oils.

MJ Hedges then became MJ Hedges Geomeasure Surveyors, further expanding into the oil and gas area and establishing an office in Roma, Queensland. In October 2002, MJ Hedges Geomeasure became part of Fyfe Alliance group of companies operating in Queensland.
