Savcor’s product range features Metrotech Corporation’s 810 Dx Pipe and Cable Locator, a single frequency, high productivity instrument designed for locating all types of buried utilities.

The 810 Dx is an innovative product, introducing the constant current transmitter and an ergonomic receiver. Together, the system maximises the electromagnetic signal applied to the pipe and is more resistant to all types of weather conditions, making it suitable for all seasons.

Utilising unique transmitter technology, the 810 Dx is capable of maximum power using three levels of output and special constant current circuitry. Sensing the resistance in the circuit, including pipe and ground return, the transmitter applies the proper voltage to achieve a constant current output. The result is maximum signal strength without operator intervention, called a Smart Maximum Strength transmitter or SmartMax.

The 810 Dx also features a single high frequency of 83 kHz that jumps insulators and gaskets, a distance-sensitive left/right guidance, simultaneous peak and null display, real time, continuous gain adjustment, a depth readout range of 6 m, and an operating temperature of between -20 and +50°C.

Transmitter power levels are easily selected using oversized buttons for a better tactile feel, even when using gloves. Extra bright LEDs illuminate the selected power level. The 810 Dx transmitter is lightweight, making it easy to carry to the worksite, and specifically designed for rugged contractor environments.

The receiver is ergonomically designed, with a special moulded handle for added comfort, which reduces arm fatigue. Large bright LCD, loudspeaker and intuitive operation make the 810 Dx receiver the most comfortable instrument to carry all day.

Standard ‘D’ cell alkaline or NiMH battery pack versions of the product are available, A Savcor spokesperson said that the 810 Dx has been well received, with clients commenting that the locator is both efficient and user friendly.
