With over 25 years of experience and expertise provided by the Savcor PLS division (formerly Pacific Lining Solutions Holdings), the Savcor Art Group is well placed to provide specialist services in regard to the design, supply and installation of wear and corrosion resistant linings for a variety of structures including process and water storage tanks, towers and pipelines and general concrete and steel structures.
Major industry sectors currently serviced by Savcor PLS include mining, heavy industrial, mineral processing, pulp and paper and wastewater management.
Shell Joint User Hydrant Installation (JUHI) has been one of the first of Savcor’s clients to benefit from this synergy. Shell has expanded on Savcor’s existing role of pipeline cathodic protection maintenance contractor to include the excavations and repairs to the coating of several kilometres of pipeline.
The first portion of the work has been carried out on a section of coated pipeline damaged by aviation fuel spills. Located at a refuelling point, the work has involved the excavation of the ageing pipeline, including a substantial quantity by hand digging. The process will then cut and remove the yellow jacket liner, manually scrape all tar and bitumen away, mechanically buff tar/bitumen to remove as much as possible, and set up encapsulation.

The abrasive blast will be undertaken to Australian Standard Class 2.5. The entire blasted area and any old/new interface areas will be solvent wiped and prime coated with Alta Primer P27, and the first layer will be immediately wrapped with Alta Inner Wrap Butyl Tape.
Once the segment is complete, the second wrap of Alta Overwrap Butyl Tape will commence, as will the spark test wrap to check for defects. The backfill will be made to the client’s specifications.
As the works are being carried out within the Sydney International Airport site, access and security of the worksite is of high priority, with all vehicles, bags and equipment searched before entry is granted.
