D100 capabilities
SADB is able to employ their HDD expertise across all applications related to underground service installations, including all wet and dry utilities.
In particular, the use of the D100 can cover the installation of products with sizes ranging from 100 mm to 1,000 mm in diameter for distances up to 800 metres in length.
This means that no drill is impossible to complete, whether a water crossing, road crossing, installation in environmentally sensitive areas or under existing structures such as buildings and built up areas.

Applications
Sewers can now be installed by using HDD techniques. With advances in location and tracking systems sewers can now be drilled with minimum grades of 0.5 per cent which eliminates costly deep excavations.
With the pull back strength of the D100, SADB are able to pull large diameter steel pipelines over a greater distance than ever before.
MP400
The MP400 adds another dimension to drilling applications with the ability to pump up to 400 gallons per minute, which gives an advantage on rock conditions and large diameter drills. The MP400 also allows SADB to be more cost effective with the recycling of drill muds, keeping down the cost of drill muds on projects.
These capabilities mean that SADB has the ability to offer their clients turnkey projects ranging from small projects to large projects.
Quality, Safety and the Environment
SADB sets very high standards and are a quality accredited company to AS:9001, committed to the world’s best practice in all facets of operation. SADB are an occupational health and safety accredited company to AS:4801. They value the safety of their people and clients and of the public across all areas of their projects. SADB is also National Pre-Qualified Contractor accredited by the CCF as conforming to AS:14001 in environmental aspects. Recently SADB attained SA Water contractor accreditation, and they are also accredited contractors for Telstra, Optus, Visionstream, South East Water, Yarra Valley Water and other leading companies.
Projects
SADB’s D100 x 120 was recently put to the challenge in completing the Isaac River crossing in Moranbah Queensland, for Sunstate Pipelines and CH4 installing a low pressure methane gas pipe. Faced with shifting sands and unstable ground conditions, the original drill profile required changing from a depth of 9 metres down to 18 metres to find more stable ground conditions to complete the drill. A wire line tracking system was employed to track the drill. At the new depth a drilling medium of coal was encountered which caused additional problems with maintaining constant flows for both the pilot hole and the reaming passes. However SADB were able to complete a drill which challenged both plant and equipment and their operators from the rod loader through to upper management. Within 15 days of actual drill time SADB installed the 500 mm steel gas main under the river 352 metres in length.
In addition SADB completed a road crossing under Goonyella Road to install a 500 mm steel main, 70 metres under the road with in four days.
SADB was contracted by Armflame to complete two drills under the Isaac River in Moranbah. The product installed was a 160 mm HDPE pipe for water and each drill was completed in four days, the first being 210 metres and the second 310 metres in length.
The drills were both completed on time and under budget, thanks to the all round efforts by SADB staff.
Due to time restrictions on the NQGP, Ancon Directional Drilling sub-contracted the services of SADB to complete a drill under the Bowen River. The drill was to install a 300 mm high pressure steel gas main 430 metres under the Bowen River in Collinsville.
