The draft EIS applies to the project’s offshore processing facilities in the Browse Basin, its subsea gas pipeline to Darwin in the Northern Territory and all onshore processing facilities in Darwin.
The gas export pipeline for the Ichthys Gas Field development will run parallel to the existing Bayu-Undan Gas Pipeline, which feeds the ConocoPhillips-operated Darwin LNG Project.
According to the draft EIS, the gas export pipeline will be installed with concrete weight coating and will not involve trenching. Its route below the seabed will avoid sensitive marine habitats, and it will be left in place after decommissioning.
Australian and Northern Territory regulators will assess the draft EIS, as approval from both governments is required before the project can proceed. The public review and comment period closes on 10 September 2010.
