When Pipe and Civil began operations two years ago, it quickly became clear that the business was in a niche position across the state. It was also clear that the company’s totally committed, dedicated and professional approach to construction services was appreciated by its clients.
The development of the business in the last two years, through its quality of work, has made the opening of the Melbourne office essential to deal effectively with the increasing levels of enquiries and new business.
Part of the expansion of Pipe and Civil’s presence in Victoria also includes the set-up of a new yard at Pakenham. The new yard will facilitate all plant management for projects in Victoria. Pipe and Civil owns more than 90 per cent of the plant and equipment it uses on projects. This allows the company to customise its fleet for different project requirements, and to quickly allocate resources where required, offering customers unparalleled project execution.

Pipe and Civil has been awarded the initial stage of a project for the Barwon Water Alliance. The project involves the construction of 1,290 mm and 1,085 mm diameter mild steel pipeline. Works also include the installation of an off-take tee and connection works for the Armstrong Creek housing development, with the hot tapping of an existing 1,283 mm water main and the installation of stopple valve/connection tee, the largest undertaken in Australia. Testing, commissioning, final reinstatement and hydro seeding the reserve are part of the scope of works. (See page 130 for more information about the project.)
The Barwon Water Alliance will be responsible for more than 100 projects worth $355 million over the next five years. Total investment in water and sewerage infrastructure during this period will be $600 million to improve regional and Barwon Water capabilities.
Cardinia Connection Alliance
John Holland and SKM have formed the Cardinia Connection Alliance with Melbourne Water to construct a
2.3 km water pipeline to Melbourne’s second biggest reservoir and build a new pump station. The $50 million project will connect the 84 km pipeline from Melbourne’s new desalination plant with Melbourne’s existing water supply system. The desalination plant is scheduled for completion by the end of 2011.
Pipe and Civil has been awarded a contract to construct a 1,750 mm mild steel pipeline, complete pump station pipe works fit-out, and intricate connection works into Melbourne Water’s existing pipeline infrastructure.
It is an exciting time at Pipe and Civil in Victoria, with work in hand and business plans in place to support further growth. The company’s skilled and motivated teams will continue to deliver quality work with a focus on safety.
