The practice of conducting the DCVG survey after construction can prove expensive when equipment and crew have to be mobilised for dig-ups long after construction is completed.
The conductance tests on HDD are also time consuming and have on occasions held up work whilst results were obtained.
Southern Corrosion Control Services (SCCS) has developed a self contained portable tool; the PCS 3500 based on their successful PCS-2000 DCVG Detection Unit. The PCS-2000 has been used worldwide for over 20 years by cathodic protection companies to carry out DCVG surveys. The equipment meets all international standards for DCVG surveys. The DCVG technique was developed in Australia and the PCS-2000 is now exported to every country in the world where there are pipelines.
The PCS 3500 allows contractors to perform an indicative DCVG coating survey after backfilling and carry out conductance tests on the HDD sections thus minimising the cost of dig-ups due to on the spot availability of personnel and equipment.

The equipment is easy to operate and comes self contained, with a DC power source, current interrupter and meter. The meter is analogue which gives the operator an easily seen visual indication of a defect.
Visit the SCCS booth at the APIA Convention to see the equipment and discuss the opportunities that this equipment offers.
