Jemena contracted OneSteel Oil and Gas for the manufacture of 113 km of 5L-X70M PSL2 coated line pipe.

The contracted line pipe specification required a pipe section designed for a class 600 system with a 0.80 design factor, resulting in a relatively thin walled pipe for the selected pipe diameter. OneSteel produced 406.4 mm diameter pipe with wall thicknesses between 5.4 and 7.2 mm.

In manufacturing terms this translated into a high diameter to wall thickness ratio that required special attention during all phases of steel make, line pipe manufacture, coating and the logistics process.

Despite these challenges, the completion of line pipe manufacture and external coating were achieved on time. The coating was completed by OneSteel’s coating subcontract supply chain partner Bredero Shaw Australia.
