For OneSteel to improve the services it can offer the project, three major upgrades are currently taking place within the business. Firstly, the replacement of the million dollar computer system that drives the operations of OneSteel’s manufacturing facility has been approved and is now underway. This replacement will allow oil and gas pipe manufacturing to be reorganised in a way that will improve quality control, transparency and traceability. The new system will keep OneSteel at the forefront of computerised tracking technology and will see OneSteel maintain leading edge process control.
Another improvement is the installation of automatic weld-line tracking, which will ensure Oil and Gas continues to manufacture product of the highest quality by increasing the integrity of pipe testing.
The replacement of the company’s mill control number stencilling equipment is also in the commissioning phase and should be running by April 2005.
Oil and Gas Pipe Manager Graeme Fitzgerald said these improvements were part of Oil and Gas’ commitment to continually invest in the business to ensure it remains a competitive force in the international marketplace.

ISO 9001 accreditation
In October 2004, OneSteel Oil & Gas Pipe was verified as gaining accreditation to ISO 9001 - Quality Management Systems.
While undergoing the accreditation did not result in significant changes for OneSteel processes, it has verified that the company’s existing systems meet the international standards that customers require.
